"Projecto" Type General Protection Fault Error
This problem occurs on some computers when Projector (the program that runs the CD's movies) tries to start and has a conflict with certain video cards in conjunction with the video driver being used. This can easily be solved by changing your driver to a Super VGA driver. Follow these instructions:

For Windows® 98
• Click "START".
• Go to "SETTINGS" and choose "CONTROL PANEL".
• Locate and double-click the "DISPLAY" icon.
• Change the tab at the top of the screen to "SETTINGS".
• Click on the "ADVANCED" button at the bottom right-hand corner of the window.
• Click on the "ADAPTER" tab.
• Click on the "CHANGE" button next to the adapter type.
• When you get the Update Device Driver Wizard, click "NEXT".
• Click the circle "Display a list..." then click "NEXT".
• Click on the circle "Show all...". It will fill and change your screen so that you will have two boxes with adapter information. Note the currently highlighted manufacturer and model of your display driver in case you need to go back to that setting.
• On the left-hand box, scroll and search for a manufacturer which says "Standard Display Types". Highlight this by clicking once. In the "Models" box on the right side, you are looking for "Super VGA". Highlight this by clicking on it once and hit the "NEXT" button. An "Update Driver Warning" window will appear. Click on the "YES" button. This will take you to the Update Device Driver Wizard. Click on "NEXT".
• Click on the "FINISH" button.
• Whenever you get an "APPLY" button to click on, click on it. If the "APPLY" button grays over, click on "OK". Click on "APPLY"/ "OK" until you get back to your Control Panel or until you get a prompt asking you to restart the computer.

For Windows® 95
• Click "START".
• Go to "SETTINGS" and choose "CONTROL PANEL".
• Locate and double-click the "DISPLAY" icon.
• Change the tab at the top of the screen to "SETTINGS".
Click on the button that reads, "CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE". This should present you with your display "ADAPTER TYPE" and "MONITOR TYPE" settings for your computer.
• Click on the "CHANGE" button next to "ADAPTER TYPE". This will show you all of the devices compatible with your video card.
• Click on the button next to "SHOW ALL DEVICES"; it will fill and change your screen so that you will have two boxes with adapter information.
• On the left hand box, scroll and search for a manufacturer which says, "STANDARD DISPLAY TYPES.". Highlight this by clicking once.
• In the "MODELS" box on the right side, you are looking for "SUPER VGA." Highlight this by clicking on it once, and hit the "OK" button. You will be returned to the "CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE" screen at this time (unless your copy of Windows was not installed with these drivers, in which case you will be prompted to insert your Windows disks, so that Windows will find the information it needs).
• At "CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE" press the "APPLY" button at the bottom right of the window. From here, you may receive a message asking you to use a current video driver or install a new driver.
• Select "CURRENT" by clicking once on the button.
• Windows should now prompt you to "RESTART YOUR COMPUTER". Restarting will load the new information for the video change and load your video under a new driver.

"Corrupt Installation Media" Error
• This problem can be avoided in most instances by following the "Drag Install" instructions in this FAQ.
up

Music Button Does Not Function/Background Music Too Loud
• This happens when the program icon has been clicked too many times.
• After exiting back to the desktop screen, double click only once on the program icon. The program will load momentarily. Or, right-click on the program icon and choose "Open" to access the program.
up

Programs Print a Blank Sheet of Paper
• If your printer gives you a blank sheet of paper when printing from the CD programs, check to make sure that your computer's display colors are set to 256. Your computer must be set to 256 colors for these programs to print properly. (If your computer is not set to 256 colors, the CD programs will display the following message at start: "You will get much better results if you set your computer to 256 colors.")
up

General-Protection Faults
When these unusual errors occur, they are typically seen at start-up. They can have a variety of number codes (e.g., Application Error: EXECD.EXE EXE 60F5 GP# 0021.806 : 01CC). Because there is no easily-identifiable cause for a general-protection fault, the solution will vary.

Some errors can be solved by performing one of the following:
• Start by changing the color depth of your monitor to 256 colors or VGA.
• Perform a "drag install". (See "drag install" instructions below). A "drag install" is just another way of installing the programs onto your hard drive. This will sometimes bypass the problems that caused the error.
• Reinstall Windows®.
• Get more memory. More memory (or possibly increasing the virtual memory) might help prevent errors.
• Ensure that you have plenty of hard disk space for TEMP directory. Windows applications will create temporary files when they run out of space. If there is not enough disk space to accommodate such files, an error may occur.
up

Other Operating Systems (e.g., OS2 / LINUX / UNIX)
• Our programs are designed to run on Windows®, Macintosh® and DOS systems. If you are using another platform (such as OS2), our software probably will not operate. If you are running the software on OS2/OS2 WARP or another operating system not intended for our software and our software is working, consider yourself lucky. If you do not have one of the platforms that will run our programs, then you may return your product for a full refund.
up

Machine Freezes at Program Start-Up
Our software is designed to be as compatible as possible and to operate on a full range of systems from basic to powerful. There is no particular reason why our software might freeze at start-up, but in the unlikely event that this does occur, the following might be a solution:

• On some computers the CD programs tend to run much slower than usual (due to the large amount of information being loaded at start-up), especially on ODS Money Saver. Have some patience, and let the computer sit for a few minutes; it should start up eventually.
• If your program freezes, reboot and try turning on and increasing the virtual memory (see increasing virtual memory).
up

Increasing Virtual Memory

Macintosh®
• In Macintosh® computers the virtual memory control is located in the "memory" section of "control panels" (found in the apple menu). Click on the apple in the upper left of the menu bar, and then click on "control panels" and go into "memory". Once the memory control panel appears (virtual memory will be the second section from the top), click the on/off button on the left to turn it on (if it is not already on), and then increase the size to the right (limited to the amount of hard drive space you have). Usually increasing the amount by 4M is enough to solve any memory problems in using our software. Restart your computer.

Changing Printer Driver (corrects crooked columns when printing from the nutrition programs)

Windows® 98/95/ME/2000
• Double Click on "My Computer" and double click on the "Printers" folder.
• Right click on your printer icon and select "Properties". Or, select the printer icon and go to "File" and choose "Properties".
• In the Properties window select the "Details" tab and click on the "New Driver" button. Make note of the current driver setting.
• A "Select Device" window will appear. In the "Manufacturers List" select "Generic". The "Models" list should now have the "Generic/Text Only" name.
• Click on the "OK" button.

Windows® XP
• Double Click on "My Computer" and access the Control Panel.
• Click on "Printers and Other Hardware."
• Go to choose a "Control Panel icon" and select "Printers and faxes."
• Right click with the mouse on the printer icon and select "Properties."
• Click on the "Advanced" tab and click the "New Driver" button. Make note of the current setting.
• Click "Next" in the "Add Printer Driver Wizard" window. In the Manufacturers list select "Generic". The "Generic/Text Only" name will appear in the Printers list.
• Click "Next". The printer is now using the new driver.

Drag Install

A drag install can be used as an alternative method of getting the programs into Windows® 3.1 & Windows® 95. This will sometimes cure problems that may be occurring.

Windows® 2000/ME
• Click "START" and locate Windows Explorer under "Accessories" in "Program Files".
• Locate your C:\drive (hard drive/local disk) in "My Computer". Double click on the hard drive icon.
• Click on "File" and then select "New" and select "Folder".
• Rename the folder as "ODSCD".
• Click on the box that says "Local disk (C:)" and select your CD drive (usually D:\). The contents of the CD should appear on the right side of the window.
• Select all of the CD's files and drag them to the opposite side to the new folder you created. This will copy the CD to your hard drive.
• After the copy is complete, go to the new folder so that its contents appear at the right. Now select the program CD you wish to use (e.g., EDHCD, MPCD, WLPCD, FLACD, etc.) by clicking on the program icon. (The icon will usually have a picture representing the program).
• Now click on "FILE" and "CREATE SHORTCUT". Another icon will appear on the right; this is the shortcut.
• Next click on "START" with the RIGHT mouse button and select "OPEN" from the menu that appears. Drag the shortcut file to the "Programs" file in the open window. The installation is now complete and the shortcut will be located in the Start Menu under "Programs".

Windows® XP
• Click "START".
• Click on "Windows Explorer".

The installation is now complete and the shortcut will be located in the Start Menu under "All Programs".

Windows® 95
• Click "START".
• Go to "PROGRAMS" and choose "WINDOWS EXPLORER".
• Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
• Make sure you are currently in the C:\ drive. (You can identify whether you are in the C:\ drive by looking at the top of the window on the left-hand side directly below the menu bar.)
• Click on "FILE" and then select "NEW" and select "FOLDER".
• Click on the box that says "DRIVE C:\" (previously described) and select your CD drive (usually D:\). Now the contents of the CD should appear on the right side of the window.
• Select all of the CD's files and drag them to the opposite side to the new folder you created. This will copy the CD to your hard drive.
• After the copy is complete, go to the new folder and click on it so that its contents will appear at the right. Now select the program CD you wish to use (e.g., EDHCD, MPCD, WLPCD, FLACD, etc.) by clicking on the program icon. (The icon will look like a yellow diamond with a movie projector inside it.)
• Now click on "FILE" and select "CREATE SHORTCUT". Another icon will appear on the right; this is the shortcut.
• Next click on "START" with the RIGHT mouse button and select "OPEN" from the menu that appears. Drag the shortcut file to the "PROGRAMS" file in the open window. The installation is now complete, and the shortcut will be located in the "START" menu under "PROGRAMS".

Disk Full Message...Can't Copy MACROMIX.DLL

• When the CD programs start up, a file (MACROMIX.DLL) is created on the hard drive. This file enables the program to play its sounds. The error occurs when there is not enough disk space to create this file. This can be because some of the programs sometimes create large temp files. The only current "cure" is to clear more hard drive space or to operate the programs directly from the CD.
up

Problems with Colors

• This problem usually will identify itself upon start-up with a message telling you that the program will work better in 256 colors. If your monitor is not set to 256 colors, you may change the setting as follows: Go into the Main group and select "Windows Setup". Once in Setup, select the "options" menu and choose to change system settings. When the window appears, click on the arrow next to the video type and scroll down to the choices for 256 colors (there are a few), and select any one of them. (Keep in mind that you might need your Windows® installation disks handy when doing this.)

"Bar Code" Effect When Highlighting

• We have found that on some machines, if you are in one of our programs and you allow a screen saver to activate, when you resume work on our program a "bar code" effect appears when you try to highlight. To prevent this from happening, simply do not allow your screen saver to activate. If you do experience this "bar code" effect when highlighting, restart your computer and reenter the program.
